Bypass Tools - Forced Injection with PCP
or Rod Pump - Exclusive to DHI
Advantages: Zero surface injection pressure, no potential
for disposal surface spills, reduced rod and tubing scale/corrosion,
longer tool and equipment life, offered in a large variety
of sizes and materials, utilizes field proven technology,
lower required energy costs and DHI Inc. has a systematic
approach.
Disadvantages: Not all wells can accommodate this technology.
Bypass Tools - Gravity Injection with PCP or Rod Pump
Advantages: Low cost
Disadvantages: low injection pressure capability, potential
for disposal surface spills, increased rod and tubing scale/corrosion,
shorter tool and equipment life and offered in a narrow variety
of sizes and materials.
Modified Plunger Rod Pump with Forced Injection with Rod
Pump
Advantages: Higher injection rate capability vs. casing
size when compared to bypass tools.
Disadvantages: low injection pressure capability, potential
for disposal surface spills, additional surface equipment,
many sinker bars required, many downhole mechanical parts,
increased rod and tubing scale/corrosion, shorter tool and
equipment life and offered in a narrow variety of sizes and
materials.
Hydrocyclone with ESP, PCP & Rod Pump with Forced Injection
Advantages: High injection rate capability and low
surface profile.
Disadvantages: Downhole electrical problems, high cost,
low injection pressure capability, potential for disposal
surface spills, corrosion/scaling, high energy costs, sand
or other particles create large problems, larger casing sizes
required, short tool and equipment life.
ESP's with Forced Injection (upside down ESP)
Advantages: High injection rate capability and low
surface profile.
Disadvantages: Downhole electrical problems, high cost,
low injection pressure capability, potential for disposal
surface spills, corrosion/scaling, high energy costs, sand
or other particles create large problems, larger casing sizes
required, short tool and equipment life.
Progressive Cavity Pump (PCP) with Forced Injection (upside
down PCP)
Advantages: High injection rate capability, low surface
profile and valve-less operation.
Disadvantages: High cost, low injection pressure capability,
substantial system damage if the system operates dry (pump
off) and larger casing sizes required.

Companies that have or are attempting Downhole
Gas and Water Separation (DGWS) technology as of February,
9, 2004.

Burleson Pump Company
Uses DHI first generation technology that is less reliable
in most applications. If contended, the process is a likely
infringement on DHI patents. Regardless, it is a much less
effective approach compared to current DHI technology. Not
green.
Camco International, Inc.
ESP DGWS Technology a high rate, high cost, low-pressure
system with many limitations and a short life. Not green
Chriscor/C-FER Technologies/Quinn's Oilfield Supply,
Ltd./ Petro-Canada Oil and Gas
This group has a system very similar to Harbison Fisher
and DHI's manifold. DHI has the more advanced product. The
Chriscor technology is gravity dependent to dispose of water
and subject to surface breakout. Not green.
Down Hole Injection, Inc.
DHI is actively involved and the leader in DGWS technology.
Current DHI technology uses both a manifold and a down hole
rod seal. The technology is extremely reliable and simple.
DHI offers a superior manifold to the industry and we are
the single, exclusive supplier of the down hole rod seal.
DHI is able to pump in excess of 4500psi above down hole
pressure while maintaining zero surface pressure. The volume
limits are subject only to the pump and stroke used in conjunction
with the tool. It is very Green technology. DHI is the only
company to offer a complete and packaged solution to the
industry.
Harbison Fisher/Slater
This company offers a gravity injection DGWS system with
low limits that is subject to surface breakout. It is not
green.
Petrospec Engineering, Ltd
Their technology is a coil tubing ESP type DGWS system.
It is very expensive and complicated. There are many operational
problems; it is low pressure and short lived. It is not
a green technology.
Precision Pump
Precision has a system very similar to Harbison Fisher -
not green.
Reda/Baker Hughes/Central Lift
They offer a Hydrocyclone system with ESP and PCP. The technology
is based on an upside down ESP, which is extremely expensive
and complicated. It is a low-pressure system with a short
life. Not green.
Schlumberger
The Schlumberger Hydrocyclone system with ESP is extremely
expensive and complicated. It too is a low pressure and
short-lived product. Not green.
Texaco
Inactive and no longer provides the technology
Weatherford Artificial Lift Systems/EVI
Inactive and no longer provides the upside down PCP DGWS
technology
