Below Packer Check/Back Pressure Valve (BPV)
Shown below in Figure #1 is a 2 3/8" below packer valve (BPV). A BPV checks the flow direction and supplies an adjustable degree of backpressure to the pump discharge. Particularly at DGWS start up, this prevents excessive flow rates flowing through the DGWS system in below production disposal applications when the pump intake pressure is greater then the injection pressure.

On specific DGWS start up's, the fluid level in the tubing/casing annulus can be considerably high. Depending on the pump intake depths, the high fluid level can contribute to a high pump intake pressure. When the pump intake pressure is considerably higher then the pump discharge pressure, fluid will flow through the system at a much higher rate then the pump capacity. To slow down or stop this excessive flow rate a BPV is installed below the pump discharge. The BPV can be installed in-line or most commonly, below the isolation packer. In addition, the BPV serves as a below packer check and is also available in 2 7/8" and 3 ½" sizes.
